merc heroes in factions (shing jea) - Guild Wars Forums

i play guildwars for 6+ years now... i have 61 chars on multiple accounts and i think i know my ways on wiki and the guru forums. and yet i have a "problem" that i cant seem to figure out (yes i tried to find the answer on wiki and guru but ended up with nothing)

today i thought it was a good plan to buy me a few merc hero slots on my 2nd account (to speed things up for a new char in factions). before i did so i read the wiki because i wanted to know if i was able to use those merc heroes on that new char.

maybe my sight is getting foggy (i am old), but i didnt find much onfo on that question, except:

So i thought it was save to buy a few merc heroes, but sadly it seems i am not allowed to use my merc heroes on that new character (it works fine on my older chars).

what info did i miss??

Think you have to go to GToB and talk to the merc registrar to unlock em on your new toon.

Hi. Here's the quote that was missed.

"Once you've purchased a mercenary slot you need to talk to the Mercenary Registrar in either Kamadan, Lion's Arch, Kaineng or Great Temple of Balthazar to either register or unlock your previously created Mercenaries. (Which means they're not available in pre-searing). "

Ok, ty for that info... tbh i didnt look in the talk section because i assumed all important info would in the main section

I assume i never had to do that before because all my other pve chars already had heroes when merc heroes were introduced??

no, in order to get the merc hero on ANY character you still need to talk with the merc hero npc guy in one of the places mentioned above

Hold on, that is to registar merc heroes.... i did that already (8x on main account and 3x on 2nd acc).

I just cant remember that i had to talk to that npc so that i can actually use the already registared merc heroes on a pve char...

yes, in order to get the mercs to show up on a character you MUST talk with the merc hero npc--just click on him--nothing else, but you have to get to where they are to do this (kaneing, kamadan, gtob or la)...that is the ONLY way you get the merc heroes to show up for a character.
your older characters were probably already far enough into the game to get to those cities and some wheres down the line clicked on the npc---

I noticed this when I had no merc hero on one of my characters--who was at gtob...so I went over to the merc npc and just talking to him the merc hero showed up in my hero drop down--but not before.

No, you also need to "register" with the NPC to use the mercs. Even if you have some mercs already, you need to talk to the NPC to get to use new ones. I found that out back when I purchased my 2nd group of 3.

All you need to do is talk to the NPC and you'll notice that a message something like:
"Mercenary Hero unlock, you mat now add them to yer partay."
- or words to that effect, will pop-up in the general chat box when you do.
You don't need to do anything else, so you can just hit Cancel, or close it.

Ok, it all came back to me... i just started to play a char on my 2nd account and he didnt had the new merc heroes (so i talk to a merc registar and that fixed the "problem")
